The Program in C to find maximum and the minimum values from a set of values stored in an array, along with their positions in the array is given below:
#include <stdio.h>
int main() {
int n, i;
int max, min, max_pos, min_pos;
printf("Enter the number of elements in the array: ");
scanf("%d", &n);
int a[n];
printf("Enter the elements of the array: ");
for (i = 0; i < n; i++) {
scanf("%d", &a[i]);
}
max = a[0];
min = a[0];
max_pos = 0;
min_pos = 0;
for (i = 1; i < n; i++) {
if (a[i] > max) {
max = a[i];
max_pos = i;
}
if (a[i] < min) {
min = a[i];
min_pos = i;
}
}
printf("Maximum value: %d, Position: %d\n", max, max_pos);
printf("Minimum value: %d, Position: %d\n", min, min_pos);
return 0;
}
Output:
Enter the number of elements in the array: 5
Enter the elements of the array: 123
99
156
32
10
Maximum value: 156, Position: 2
Minimum value: 10, Position: 4
Pro-Tips💡
This program first takes the number of elements in the array and the elements themselves as input.
Then, it initializes the variables max
, min
, max_pos
, and min_pos
to the first element of the array. It then uses a for loop to iterate through the elements of the array starting from the second element (index 1) and compares each element to the current maximum and minimum values.
If an element is greater than the current maximum value, it becomes the new maximum value and its position is stored in max_pos
. If an element is less than the current minimum value, it becomes the new minimum value and its position is stored in min_pos
.
The final maximum and minimum values along with their positions in the array are printed out after the loop completes.
